Pigeons, poop and rats creating a stink by Bridge of Lions

The pigeons are causing a stink near the Bridge of Lions, and they’re bringing the rats with them.
The St. Augustine Police Department is asking people to help stop the problem by no longer feeding the birds.
According to the department, people have been putting bags of bird feed on the sidewalk near the Bridge of Lions. Those good intentions are causing a problem.
The pigeons eat the seeds, the seeds gets wet, and the pigeon waste mixes with the seed.
It’s a stench and a health problem, the report said.
Not only that, but rats have joined in. They have been flocking from the sea wall to feast on the seed.
City of St. Augustine employees have been forced to go to the bayfront to clean up the stinky mess every week.
“Any consideration in stopping this activity would go a long way,” the report said.
